Hey everyone. My truck is a 1999 Dodge Diesel 2500 4x4 . I want to change to 3:55's from 4:10's . I was looking at the wrecker, and the wrecker dude needs to know what kind of gears i have in there...Dana 60 ? Front and back? Thanks for any help!

 

Well, your front axle is a Dana 60 and the rear should be a Dana 70. Dana 80's came in trucks with a manual transmissions.

 

I was kinda thinking of switching to 4.10's. Haven't made up my mind yet. Where are you located?

 

I am in Canada....(B.C) Why were you thinking of changing....I do alot of highway driving.....

change to 285/305/315 tires,it will kill those 4.10s

 

I just bought new 265 tires last month.......Would kinda suck to buy new ones.....Is a gear change hugely expensive?

 

It dependes on if you are going to tackle the job yourself. I just completed a Dana 80 rebuild and had about 8 hours into dissamble and reassemble.

Did you use a case splitter? I have changed gears and carriers out of jeeps, but not 1 ton axels. I was told I would need a case spliter.

I didnt use a case spreader when I did mine 2 years ago.

 

I did not use a case spreader. I pulled everything apart, did some reading for backlash etc, and then read I should have used a case spreader. I guess I didn't need one as everything came apart and went back together easily.
