Who has a plow on their 1st Gen?

Hi

I am thinking of putting a plow on my 92. I am concerned that it is too much weight for the front end to handle. I am thinking about an 8-9' plow that weighs about 750lbs.

Anyone have any input? Did you do something to beef up your front end?

Thank you
Dean

plow

I'm looking right now at a 90 gas with a 9' plow on it. I only assuming that with the diesel it has suspension upgrades that will allow you to take that plow on.

my 3/4ton handles a 9' fisher plow no problem. the truck, a former municipality truck, used to push an 11ft funnel plow around town where i live clearing town streets. needless to say, it lived a hard life

I have a 92 and a 93 with a western uni-mount setup on them, but only 1 8 foot western plow. I know for a fact the 93 had the plow on it from 1994 by looking at the plow paper work.
As far as I know there has been nothing done to the front ends, original springs, etc...

I added two extra leaves and rearched the front springs to carry the weight 1000 + pounds of the blizzard. It raised the front of the truck 3 inches initially but should settle around 2" higher. When I lift the plow the truck drops 1.5 inches.

Generally an 8' plow is well suited for these trucks. I have had a bunch of em and they take the weight ok. A 9' is pushing it in my opinion and will really start to put a hurtin on the frontend. If you carry the plow around as little as possible and put some weight in the bed you'll be fine.

I have a meyers 7.5 on mine. It could use new springs since it sags a little in the front all the time. Also the plow has only been for private use. Otherwise it seems to hold up fine to the weight.

I got a 9ft fisher on the front of my 93, she loves it, plows great and rides great with it on, a little wieght in the back does help though. The front end is real tight on it too, to my surprise

I have had a 7.5 meyers on both my 91 w150 and a 87 Ramcharger (and also western unimount on a 90 and 94 Dakota) with the stock suspension on my 1/2 tons thay sagged a little and I am in the process of putting a Ultra Mount Western on my 89 W350 but that truck has Air bags in the Front. I say in the process because Western doesn't make a Ultramount for the truck so I have to make my own. I really wish I would have done this in the summer insead of waiting until it started to snow out
