Any of you guys have a suggestion for a local "EAST COAST" trans shop, I'd be grateful.

The guy who originally was going to look at and do the trans repairs (last year), had his diesel transmission mechanic go back to using drugs, and fired him. He can't find a reliable worker.

This sounds so familiar.

Thanks !

Bugger. But at least now you're on the way to figuring it out and fixing the mystery. And maybe some upgrades in the process?

Wish I could help with finding a trans shop (can we even say that still?) but the one I can recommend is almost 700 miles SW...

-I have a manual fuel pressure gauge under the hood and when I fired it up first time it went up to 18-20lbs fuel pressure at idle...so got shut down immediately.
-Took it all apart again and carefully bent the springs so it had a bit of a beehive taper to each end of the spring so it would sit inside the piston and cap this time and put it back in...this time it was hovering around 15-16lbs at idle but bringing the RPM up it started to climb to 18+lbs so shut it down.
-Took it out again and this time removed half a spring coil from each end and again worked the spring to seat properly...installed it and tried again. This time it was idling at around 10-12lbs but higher RPM was bringing it over 16lbs and I wasn't comfortable with that so out it came again.
-Removed another half coil from each end and did the spring manipulation and installed...now was idling around 8lbs and full RPM it was around 12lbs....Perfect!

It has since settled down a little and idles around 7lbs with high RPM pressures in the 10-12lbs range. Bit of a PITA and I would not attempt this "upgrade" unless you had a fuel pressure gauge to monitor your pressures.
Sounds like you have the smaller diameter Gen2 pump. Then you ordered the big bore spring. I ordered the big bore springs by accident as I didn't know I had the small bore lift pump. That's probably why you had to tweak the spring. When I ordered the right spring it dropped straight in.

So I ended up with 2 bags of springs.

Well that's because of two things ! You bought a regular lift pump instead of a High Volume pump ( HV ) and I sent you that Fastenal spring for free but I told you and others that spring is garbage as I tested it long term.but you wanted one anyways. I sent you a brand new one as I bought a few to test. That spring will keep dropping pressure the more you drive the truck. It's not meant for a high rpm repetitious application.

So if you have a sack of springs+monitor your fuel pressure the pump may wear out before your spring supply?

Approximately how many miles before it needs replaced? I have the smaller piston pump with the spring swapped. However I am not going to use it.

I bought a Carter pickup/electric pump for a later Dodge Cummins. 36-38gph 18lbs off the gauge.

I am waiting for the weather to warm up. I have my THD modded IP. Eric@THD said it would be okay at that pressure. He installs the shaft seal with red Loctite.

Rolled out a bale of hay before a day of shoeing horses.

Yes sir, that is a farrier trailer. It looks small, but it weighs 3500lbs with all my inventory of shoes in there.

I have a lot of stockpiled fescue, but they like the hay also. I hope to overseed some red clover soon.

Thanks.

I spent big buck$ on some red clover seed to mix in with the already existing white clover. It didn't come up. I want to get some goats for meat, and cheese. Not sure to keep from over doing clover in my limited pasture.

If you have some brush,, that is the idle for goats.
Clovers are best suited for cattle and sheep.

I popped the hood to make sure that no squirrels too up residence.

Don't want to start it, as the Exxon Valdeze will erupt.

That's sweet. Now that's what I would like to do with my life. Too bad I'm chained to the wife, and too much of a chicken ship to leave

I just got a few NON intercooled AFC springs from Bosch. They are a stiffer spring than the '91.5-'93 springs

I plan to install one on nonrev's old '92 W-250 and another on Project Covid. I want to slow the onset of full fueling a bit now both are making more boost than they ever did from the factory.

It will be a good small job I can get done while a friend is going over all the '76 wiring harnesses I need to move forward on my 2wd Ramcharger build.
