will a 2nd gen fan hub assembly fit and will the pulley line up with a 91.5-93 intercooled engine?

No it will not. Intercooled ve engines have a pulley and hub specific to them. They have not been available for a long long time and are sought after in conversions as they are app an inch shorter and more centered than the second gen style.

Why do you ask is their something wrong with yours? The bearing in them is replaceable.

The fan blade itself is also slightly different and specific to the intercooled ve engine also.

well i have this 91.5 motor in an 03 gasser. I'm using an electric fan and the gasser radiator and it's running way too warm. 230 on the highway and i have to keep it under 70. so i want to switch to the 03 cummins radiator and a clutch fan. the threads for the clutch on my hub are boogered beyond repair so the clutch will not thread onto the hub. 2nd gen units seem to be plentiful in the used market so was hoping to use one of those. that and i hear the 2nd gen blades and clutches are better. if I can't find an IC hub assembly, i'll probably install the cummins radiator with the electric fan and see if that is enough to improve the cooling

the second gen fan mount and pulley will fit the early engine and line up with the crank pulley. I`ve got one on my `92 inter cooled 12V. the stock mount was a little too high, so I got a second gen mount and pulley. it moves the fan to the driver side about 2" or so and down 2" or so. you MUST use the second gen mount AND pulley. I don`t remember what fan I used. I THINK I used the second gen fan and fan clutch.it has been 8 years since I did this swap and my brain is a tad fuzzy about witch fan and clutch I used. the `03 is a common rail and the fan and clutch spin COUNTER clockwise. will NOT work with the second gen fan mount and pulley. first and second gen fans and fan clutch turn CLOCKWISE. and have LEFT hand threads. the `03 fan clutch has RIGHT hand threads.

outstanding info sir! thank you!

i'm sure my post was a bit confusing as I put an IC VE pump motor in an 03 gasser body(1500 reg cab short bed) so i don't really care if the fan is 2" over in any direction, as long as it lines up with the rest of my pulleys. I'm asking the question in the 1st gen section because it is a 1st gen powertrain. but basically i'll end up with

- 1st gen IC ve pump motor
- 2nd gen fan hub/pulley/blade/clutch
- 3rd gen radiator/IC/condenser

i just tried to bleed the system(again). jacked the front of the truck up, got the motor up to temp, turned the heat on full blast, rad cap off, opened bleeder screw next to thermostat housing. steady flow of coolant, no air. test drive, still running 230* on the highway and was threatening to climb. i was coasting and going 60 on the interstate to keep it there. its 100* here today. guess i just need more radiator and fan

To elaborate a little more on the subject, the '89-'91 non i/c engines have the same fan hub bracket as the '94-'02 engines. Moves the fan to the driver side and down slightly as already mentioned. Whether the dimensions are identical, I don't know but visually, they look similar.

Today, a replacement Donaldson air filter (aka BHAF) arrived along with an Outerwears pre-filter.

Yesterday I opened a can of worms. I pulled the heater hose fitting at the lower radiator hose.the plan is to eliminate the extra 5/8 hose nipples that ran to the trans cooler the bottom one went OK but I can't get the top one to budge. who ever invented a nipple with no hex should be shot then hung! I am about convened myself to cut the thing off and tap it 1/4NPT like the lower fitting experiment before I muff the thing up and can't tap it or get it out.

I used the 1/2" bolt to try to keep distortion to a minimum.

I was able to get a small pipe wrench on it and with some heat, it came loose. A buddy of mine welded a bolt in it, like you have inserted, and turned it out with a wrench. Just some more idears.
