WH1C Intake duct

I'm still gathering parts for my WH1C conversion and I need to get some different ducting from the air cleaner to the compressor intake. The stock H1C is much smaller.

Is there a generic ducting available in different sizes? I might go to a BHAF later on also.

Thanks

Edwin

two rubber 4'' 45's and a couple feet of 4'' intake pipe and some clamps. I think that's where wannadiesel got his intake stuff---plus, they've got STACKS

I think the black stuff is ABS. I'll see if I can find an MSDS on it.

I had thought of using PVC/ABS tubing but the thought of it shattering when extremely cold due to the vibration these engines produce steered me away, besides the whole deal from airflow, 45`s tubing and clamps was under $50 IIRC.

I think the PVC gives off nasty fumes when hot.

Wannadiesel has a nice setup I wouldn't mind copying. Here's the link and in the description it lists what he used and where he purchased them

https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...cat/500/page/1

Maybe he can add some details here

Nothin' wrong with PVC for the intake duct, I've seen it under the hoods of pulling trucks.

You can use a chunk of exhaust tubing, or the aluminum tubing like I used, it doesn't really matter. Whatever is available and fits your budget, use it.

I'm thinking I may try adapting the stock hose that I have to begin with. The place wannadiesel got his fittings from has aluminum tubes though so I would probably go with that. If I could adapt the flexible hose I have it might make changing air filters easier by some but maybe not. The flex isn't much flexible anymore.

I still need to couple the output of the compressor to my crossover. I guess I'll have to wait till bolt on time before I can see how to do that. I'm thinking I mucht get a hose reducer and just clamp it on but the flange on the output of the compressor might not work well with that. I hate to do any welding cutting etc... on the turbo or the crossover but since the crossover pipe shrinks down to less than 2" I thinking I might take it to a shop and have it enlarged to 3" to flow better. The 2" seems awful restrictive.

Thoughts?

I have found a good used 12 cm WG housing that isn't cracked on eBay so that's covered.

I would think about trying to get the 90 elbow that clamps on to the compressor outlet on the aftercooled trucks, and then adapts to hose. You could clock the turbo so that kicked up and over toward the valvecovers, and then mod the crossover pipe to accept the new larger boot as you described. Later if you want to put an aftercooler in the truck, you would be that much further along.

Just a thought.

I have not seen the aftercooler setup so I didn't know what parts were involved. The 90 degree elbow would make for a long piece of hose, 8 inches or so, to connect to the crossover pipe. It would be nice if I could get a simple straight piece that clamped to the compressor and would allow for a hose. Then I could probably mate it with a rubber reducer and clamps. That way I could put everything back stock if need be.

If anyone has any of these parts please chime in.

Thanks

Edwin
