Wait to start light

When I went to start my truck today the wait to start light would not go out. After it fired the WTS light started blinking. Anyone ever seen this before?

I have heard of this before but I can't remember exactly what the problem was. I think it means that your grid heater isn't working properly, or that the relay that controls it is bad. Somebody that actually knows the answer will chime in here soon.

Have you recently got your engine wet? Every time I wash my engine my light comes on until I dry the connection with compressed air.

Did you try and open the drain, there might be just enough water in your filter to make the light come on and the vibration of the engine is making it blink.

Try disconnecting the WIF sensor at the filter and see if the light goes out, this will rule out any water in the sump or WIF sensor problems then if it is still on.

I do not believe the WIF light has any dual function other that when it goes through it's POST sequence especially with your early 1st. Gen.

I would think.

It is my wait to start light that blinks, not my water in fuel light. It blinks at a set pace, a little slower than the turn indicator, I will make sure all my plugs are dry and clean. Thanks so far.

An open circuit in the air temp sensor circuit will make the WTS light blink on a non-intercooled truck. Did you unplug it and forget to plug it back in?

Oh geez I read WTS about 5 times and still saw WIF, what was I thinking.

Where does the open circuit flash signal come from, the message center or is there a controller somewhere behind the dash?

On my GM 6.2 the WTS light would flash about 1/sec when the glow plug controller would burn out.

That's a function of the brain box on the firewall.

You can use this feature to test the system. If you unplug the sensor and then turn on the key, the relays should both kick on.

Sticks out the side of the intake horn just below the dipstick tube.
