Questions about buying HX35

I'm looking to buy an HX-35 Turbo for my truck to upgrade to a 4" downpipe, just had a few questions:

Good price to pay *NEW* from ebay or similar site?
Used Junk yard good condition turbo with no play, pricing?
Does it bolt right up?
What size housing should I look at getting?

All I should have to do is block off wastegate and I'm good to go, is this correct?

My truck is used mostly for play and occasionally pulling my wheeler, EGT's aren't a huge issue as I drive like an old man anyway. Thanks guys!

No it doesn't. it has 3" like the H1c.

the hx40 has a 4" outlet, the true hx40, not a hybrid 35/40

An hx40 is a great upgrade, look for a 60/65/16 HX40.

An HX35 is not really an upgrade over your 93 H1c because the compressor wheel is the same size, the hx35 will have a small 12cm housing that will get hot on an auto truck.

It'll spool fast and sound cool, thats about it.

there,s more to a turbo than compressor wheel size, comp.housing, mwe slot , there are 2 different variations of the 35 used on 2nd gens. i have one of each i,ve put hx,s on several 1st gens, its not a huge upgrade but a good upgrade, especially in the $200 price range

crossy,s son, my response to your post was in no way a put down of your statement , you seem quit knowledgeable and i enjoy your posts. i have found the hx to be a decent upgrade for the money. certainly not a huge upgrade. i do a lot of testing / tinkerining with different turbo/ exaust housing/waste set-ups to see what works best at my elevation. i would love to see how a big turbo spools and feels down low. maybe my results here are a little different than you low elevation guys. i usually tow from 5000 to 8000 ft. most guys around here that go real big on compressor wheel spool real slow.

Thats a cheap knockoff, STAY AWAY FROM IT. if you look at the sizes its not even really an hx40, that thing is for like a dodge stealth, not a cummins lol

awesome upgrade would be this PDR HX40- http://www.pdrdiesel.com/products/PD...s-1086-26.html I believe "gearjammer" on here has one, they take an already good 400Hp turbo and do they're modifications to it to make it better. 4" outlet

or if you wanna have a turbo that you'll never have to upgrade- http://www.pdrdiesel.com/products/Cu...bo-915-26.html

Just throwing some things around, you could also do the 05-07 3rd gen HE351 turbo upgrade if you can find one cheap enough, 4" outlet and 15+ years more of turbo technology and they spool super fast. crewcabxlt has one

I wasn't offended Crewcabxlt I like trying to get people to spend money on here

since a few guys are doing some R&D on he351's, from what i've been reading, it does spool quickly due to it's 9cm housing size and would be good for around town, no-load driving on a manual truck. but also because of the 9cm housing, it doesn't perform well under towing, loaded conditions or top-end power because it's reached it's maximum pressure and by then is just pushing hot air. am i correct on the info that i've gathered? i'm just doing my homework for when it comes time for an upgrade. i haven't done any towing since i've had the truck but i'd like to have a turbo that would spool fast when driving around town and that would be fine when under a load or when i'm towing and not have to worry about over-speeding it and it exploding. in other words, i'm looking for the best of both worlds lol

I love my hx-35. If you leave your truck relatively stock you will love the hx-35. I don't know much about egts with auto trannys, but my egts went down A LOT when i put an early hx-35 on my 5-speed. I went from 19 lbs at about 1100 degrees to 28 lbs under 1000 degrees. (still going to hook up the waste gate) The great thing about hx-35s, is that they came stock on 95-2002 2nd gens (except late autos), and you can pick one up for around $250. I got mine for $120 Check classified ads, and there are a lot on cummins forum.

there are others on here running the he-351,maybe they have more info. i have found the opposite from your thinking to be true. i cant believe how this turbo cools top end boost. 35 to 40 psi it really shines. ive only towed 2 times in the mountains and it really uot performed my hx. even at 40 + psi i struggle to hit 1200*. high rpm seems to push it more to max. ive now set my wastegate at 38-40 psi. i,ll post info as i get more results. i dont want to over rate the turbo but so far im impressed. my experience towing is the smaller housing run cooler when operating 1500-2500 rpm. it takes air to cool. more than flow out the back.
