Glad you got it figured out. Now you will find your notes.

So I redid my valve adjustment yesterday after work. Redid my notes. After much searching on here on the companion method of adjusting valves I was close to doing it right. I just didn't turn the engine long enough to top out the intake and see the exhaust valve just start to head down, which I believe is what everyone refers to as crossover. Went .009 on the intake and .019 on the exhaust,so a tad tighter than spec. The little bit of ticking noise I had heard from the original wrong way adjustments are gone. Hopefully this will eliminate some of my idle exhaust haze. Thanks to all that commented on this post

Why tight?

Valve adjustment is one place where tighter is not better. If it's too tight, a valve is held open against high cylinder pressure, and that results in a burned valve. If too loose (within reason) the only problem is a bit of noise.

The other factor is that the adjustment is made on a cold engine. The specified clearance allows for expansion of the valve and reduction in clearance at operating temperature.

Just a tad is all. Done on a very cold engine. Wasn't driven or cranked over for 4 days. I think I'll be ok
