Tach is in!

Well, I got the tack mounted and hooked up today. I don't have any way to calibrate it other than to go to a shop that has a diesel tach. I set it by running the engine up to the govenor limit and set it at 2800. It says my idle is set at 700. It looks pretty good on top of the dash. Now to get the boost and pyro up there to keep it company.

One neat thing about an alternator tach is that if the belt comes off you know right away. I got in some deep water one time and the belt slipped enough to stop the tach.

I had an old Chevy Corvair when I was a teenager. It had a bad habit of slipping the belt off since it ran over crazy right angle pullies in order to run the engine cooling fan (air cooled). Whenever the belt came off the generator light was supposed to come on to let you know but for some reason the generator would become a motor and the light wouldn't come on. I had to rely on the smell of burning engine to let me know the belt was off (again).
