Any used AutoMeter Diesel Tach??
Has anybody used the AutoMeter Diesel tach on their
first Gen truck? I am asking becaues I am not sure
how it triggers and if it works with the OE crank position
sensor. The one I am looking at is PN 2888 and its on the
AutoMeter website.

I have also looked into the Isspro gauges but they seem
a bit spendy.

Thanks for any info.
Matt
As I will prolly have to get another brand if the supplier will not warrantee this one.

FWIW...if your looking for a cheaper alternative. Tiny Tach makes a tachometer for around 65 bucks. Alot of the 1st gen guys on the TDR say it works great. A little slower reaction than an analog gauge, but all in all it works great. It recieves its signal off of one of the injector lines. It contains an hour meter, two service timers, and max RPM as well. The only downfall is that it has no light.

Tiny Tach

Re:Any used AutoMeter Diesel Tach??
I have an Autometer 2888 on my rig and it works great but it it's not a bolt on. The sender is held on the alternator with a giant worm gear clamp and the tach has to be calibrated to match the signal from the sender. Fortunately, I have an optical tachometer so the calibration (adjustment screw in the tach head) was a cinch but for those without access to one, there is the extra expense/hassle of having it calibrated.
If I had known about the Tiny Tach at the time, I might have chosen it.
Thanks for the replies Okie and Zone. Thats the
info I was looking for. I was not sure how the Autometer tach got its trigger...I supose its some hall effect with the
alternators field....and it needs calibration. Ok Its all
clear now.
