Stinky day with my truck and a high idle question

Hi

I was about 50 miles from home today and my center bearing in the driveshaft seized. I limped maybe 10 miles and then it was vibrating so bad that I had to get towed. $180 for the tow. youwch, but not too bad for a 40 mile ramp truck.

So my question is about my idle. What would cause my truck to have an intermitent high idle. When on high idle the motor is at around 1300 rpm. The throttle is returning like normal and on the idle stop. So that isn't it.

Any ideas?

Thank you
Dean

after getting stuck once in due to a stupid "jerry-rig" fix of mine i decided to get AAA gold or platinum or whatever, it's like $75 a year or so, i get 100miles free towing if i break down. basic gives you like 5 miles, and if my truck breaks down far away from home you'd better believe that the corner auto shop is going to get thier hands on it! i figure the $100 could get me to the nearest cummins place.

as far as the idle no ideas sorry.

I don't think that is the problem. My truck was running fine then it just idles a little fast. For a short while it idled fine then fast again.

I special ordered a pillow block for my center bearing. I am going to have to wait a week for the pillow block to be made and shipped to me. I can't believe what a POS center bearing I had in there. It only lasted 3k miles.
