Steering box jump, skip, pop

I put on a new shaft, now I have some other problem. When making a sharp right 90 turn I get a pop and the steering wheel returns to center 90 degrees off center, until I make a sharp left and steering wheel returns to normal. Do I need a new box?

Sounds like the shaft is skipping (loose), I wouldn't drive till the problem was found and fixed.

Shaft is tight. Set screws and jamb nuts are tight. The poping was bothersome, but the changing alignment has me worried. I need help, I know it is another f-ing steering question, but I need the truck to take trip with my family and need to know if I better make other arraignments. It drives well down the road and does not wander.

Get it checked out. If you are taking a family and that thing pops, I do NOT want the next post being a "Prayers Needed".

By new shaft, what DID you replace and where?

Check the mounting plate the steering box is mounted to, check the frame where the mounting plate is mounted to, do not drive the truck until you get it figured out. Reach under the front fender, grab the steering shaft and give it a twist look at the steering box while twisting and see where it is flexing and check for cracks or broken mounting plate. Check all steering components.

Tightened up the mounting plate and it is better. Had a helper turn wheel while watching and the box is still moving a bit when full right turn. Don't worry I won't drive until I fix. looks like the only way you can really get all the bolts tight is to remove box from the frame.

Still, being 90* off center after the pop tell me it is a joint somewhere...

popping is gone and wheel centers back up while driving. I am still getting a bit of box movement. I will pull the box off and make sure the plate is tight.

Pull the box and check the frame check the mounting plate for cracks it only takes a few minutes to pull it off. When my plate broke my steering wheel went off center.

frame and mounting plate are fine. I got all the bolts as tight as they would go and added lock washers to the bolts that mount the plate to the frame. I am getting only a little movement on a full right turn, but I marked the the location of plate to frame and bow to plate and it is not moving. It is probably a little frame flex. The steering is now centered and good; however, I will be shopping for all the pieces for a crossover setup.

This wouldn't be a bad idea either when you do the cross over steering.

I did this on my crew and it really stiffened up the front end of the frame, I have the other plate for the passenger side to install when I break the truck down for paint.
