seal kit to fix leaking fuel pin

I am fairly new to the diesel world but i feel that I am pretty mechanically inclined. With that said I called my local diesel shop and asked him if he had a seal kit to fix my leaking fuel pin and he said yep we carry them on hand just bring the pump in and well fix you up for 300 plus parts, but i told the guy i was planning on doing this myself and he said i was would be stupid to even try to tear into it that a professional diesel shop is the only ones who needs to touch the pump. AM i way off by thinking of doing it myself although i havnt actually tore one down before but is it that complicated.

you should beable to fix the fuel pin yourself, espesilly if you done the 366 spring install. because you have to pull that part of the pump off
the only leak i have heard some people regreating they tried to fix is the rotor head.

The hardest part of replacing the seal on a leaking fuel pin is tapping the two small ball bearing's out of the pump top. The ball bearings hold the shaft that the afc lever rides on in the pump top. Once the afc lever and the pin it rides on are removed you can access the fuel pin and the bad seal. The seal is held in by a retainer that you will need to unscrew with a allen wrench or small screwdriver. Somewhere in all the infinite knowledge on this site there are pictures of how to do this. If you have done a 366 spring you can handle it. Good luck, and don't pay someone to do something you can do yourself.

I forgot to add that once you have the afc lever out you should forget to put it back in like I did.

If you can install a 3200 spring and you can follow instructions then it is an easy fix.

Hmm lets see $300.00 labor plus parts 20 cents for an o-ring or $20.00 for the Bosch Gasket Kit #DGK-121 with everything to reseal the pump.

Removing the ball bearings is easy.

yea i checked out the sticky on this fix before i called the guy asking for parts and felt confident i could handle this task no sweat. Im going to get the o-ring and seal it myself

Don't just replace the one o-ring. Get the entire seal kit, Bosch part number DGK-121. Replace every o-ring/gasket in the pump top while it's off.

Something you may want to do, depending on what your future plans are for your truck, is to replace those little ball bearings with small set screws. That way if down the road you decide to remove your afc lever it will be a little easier. If you don't plan on trying to get as much power out of your truck as you can I wouldn't bother with this though, It makes your truck smoke a lot more when you stand on it.
