Unhappy TST Dowel Pin Fix Kit

I tabbed the KDP on my truck this weekend, and it really wasn't that bad. I took out the radiator, and I'm glad that I did because the more room you have to work, the easier it is. I ran into a little problem when it came time to actually tab the dowel pin, which was still recessed in the timing case by the way. The "stepped" style tab washer provided with the kit would not sit properly against the timing case. The washer was hitting the raised part of the timing case where the dowel pin is before it would sit flush against the back of the timing case where the bolt goes. It took quite a bit of Dremel tool work to get it to fit right. The reason I bought this kit was to save time and labor. Anyone else used the TST kit, and had the same problem?

The second gen kit has a flat tab washer, I just killed the KDP on a 1994 motor and used a TST kit. The 1st gens and 24 valves have a "stepped" style tab washer, which is the one I used. I know that it was the right kit, because ther is no way that a flat washer would work on a 1st gen timing case. The box that the kit came in was marked 89-93 or 99-02. I've already emailed TST about the problem.

Yea, I bought the kit for the second gen a few weeks back and had to order the 1st gen tab . I've been procrastinating doing the deed but I have everything I need now, including a new thermostat, plenty of carb cleaner and loctite. I plan on fixing the leaks at the vacuum pump (which has gotten really bad), replacing the drivers rotor and caliper, doing the rear disc conversion, and now fixing my air conditioning!!!! Still cheaper that a payment!

Thats what I say. Though, itd be nice not to have to mess with making a crossover tube cause nobody makes parts for your truck, or putting on a new headgasket, fixing the radio that quit, trying to stop 3 oil leaks, or only being able to go 77mph. Yes it will be fixed soon enough, and to validate it all-I can take on any flowersmoke and leave it in the dust, so its all worthwhile.
