rust in fuel filter, from fuel module?

I've been clogging up fuel filters pretty often lately. I notice fine rust particles in the filter when I remove it. Where could the rust be coming from.? When I dropped the tank a few months ago, I noticed the fuel tank module metal frame was corroded with rust, but I sanded it down and put some rust inhibitor on it. I also replaced my fuel lines with rubber hose. Where else could the rust be coming from? Should I drop the tank again and replace the fuel tank module this time? Could the rust be coming from my lift pump? Any links to where I can get a replacement module without breaking the bank? I couldn't find a module for my 91 D250 diesel. Any and all ideas welcomed. Thanks.
Thanks. -Jeff

Where are you buying fuel ??

Is an old rusty farm tank involved ??

Have you poured in fuel from an old metal can ??

Although highly unlikely, another possible source for the rust is from the metal return-lines.

i am burning vegetable oil as fuel, so corrosion is possible... i'm just trying to find out all the possible sources it could be coming from.

Are you running the cheap clear inline filters before your lift pump? I have added this, with bearkillers encouragement.

But as for corrosion, I would think if your module was corroded before it's more then likely again, even after sanding it down and treating it.

If you are using waste VO, it contains a lot of water. I would imagine even fresh stuff has a certain amount.

Although initially cheap, maybe even free, sooner or later, waste cooking oil is a death ticket to expensive engine components.

Salt, various acids, all manner of non-burnable guess-whats, and lots of water, are what make up used cooking oil.

If you are getting it from resturants and such, so far as management and their employees are concerned, the WVO is no different to them than the garbage in the dumpster; they will toss and pour all manner of trash in there.
