Radio wires

Ok so I've got the radio out of my truck but it seems that there are 2 wires that come out the back in the same strand. One green and one black with a red stripe. Anyone know where these might connect to?

This is a factory 1.5 DIN mount head unit? Do the wires have a connector/ or loose?

They are speaker wires.

The green one should be LF positive and the dark blue/red one should be RF negative.

Not sure, some of these head units (and there are a bunch) have misc. outputs for power antenna, RF interface(none of which would be on a truck of this type). None of the pile I have around here have the described wires that 92 is referring to. Typically the grn/blue wires are for speakers but they do not come directly out of the unit(unless it's an old mid 70-80s). I'm think'in the two (blk/grn-red) conductors here are for something else/still researching...

The radio used to work fine every now and then you would just have to jiggle the wires on the back and push the volume button in to get it come on but now its gotten to the point where it doesn't do anything but display the time. I figure I'm just going to buy something aftermarket now but the engine makes good music as it is right?, so whats the need for a radio anyway.

All I can say, is I loved the little 360* directional joysticks that could control where the sound was, rather than all the digital junk in the new stereos.

None-the-less, when I got my truck, the first thing I did before ANYTHING else was get a new head unit, and a sub.

When I first got the aftermarket stereo, I ordered a wiring harness with it, so all I had to do was plug that into the factory wires & into the back of the new deck, and no problems, other than all the wiring for the amp & sub.

92,
None of my contacts seem to recall the wires you describe. If you power up the unit and it feeds 12VDC, it's most likely a power antenna lead. Most of the units have a 12v feed off the harness but some did have a conductor off the back by itself. I have a few head units that are lay'in around here and you're more than welcome to any of them. There is a reason that they are no longer installed, and that reason is that a new head unit will not only provide a better sound but the convenience of new technology, a remote(long reach for us 1st gen crowd), expansion for upgrades, satellite, video, etc. I'm an EX-audio tech from back in the day, when we used old Caddy 8-tracks for boat anchors. Currently I'm waiting on a new KENWOOD receiver for my '93 and I'm gett'in the bed and interior LINE-X'd on Tues. I too am enjoying the lull rattle from the engine bay.

I too share the bitter sweet music (and only music) of listening to the motor and turbo. My head unit used to work, intermitantly, producing sound. but all it does when i turn it on is click, display the station, then go to the time. It worked maybe 4 times i have driven the truck! I'm waitin on the dough for a sweet lil Kenwood head unit. Ive got the cassette deck unit as well.
As a matter of fact I believe it to be the stocker too, I just pulled the factory tape off the connector tonight!
