Axle: Somebody help

Well it looks as if the rear axle is destroyed. I had a oil seal failier and that is what led to this mess inside the rear.

I need another rear end bad, can someone help me???

use the drum as a slide hammer and if that fail get the torch........I have seen worse, that have survived.

Just keep the torch away form the toob(axle) at all cost! Evan having to buy a new drum, is cheaper than the hole housing!

Well the drum is fine but the hub is destoyed. I wouldn't really trust the axle either as it has had verticle loads put on it.

I found a complete rear for $300 plus core, but I think I can talk the guy into letting me give him just $325.

What do you think I should do, I have yet to look at the other side. I figured that I could just slap the used one in there and throw in a new set of gears and an OX locker, plus new bearings and hub into the old one if it was usable. I have heard dually rears from most yards bring avg. $800.

If the tube has bumps form heat weld, then i would clean it up and us it............if the tube has shrunk or has a dip in it from the heat........it replacement time!

look on the inside of the tube, on the upper side of it were the weight of the truck sets. heat marks or OK but if there is destortion......your done!

You could have the end hacked off and a new spindle mount welded on but if you can get one for 3 to $400 i would go that wrought.

You can do a lot of grinding for $300.

That's ugly! From the pics it looks like the hub took the worst of it, have you gotten it apart far enough to see the spindle?

The price on the used rear sounds pretty good if it comes to that.

That's a very good price for the rear end, also the weight of the truck will be sitting on the bottom of the tube as that is where the bearing will push up with the weight. I have used a lot worse in the military, you can weld it up and then grind it back down but I would go with a replacement at that price.

Crestucky, ha. I'm from Mary Esther (aka Ft. Walton Beach). I'll be back down Dec. 28 for a couple of weeks to check on the house and to have Suncoast rebuild the tranny (reverse band started to back off).

Maybe I'll see you down there.

There is a nation-wide network of mobile spindle rebuilders that advertise in all the popular trucking publications.

They have guys in each state that are trained and equipped to come to you and replace/re-machine the spindle, right on the truck.

Although the most of their business is for the big truck trade, they are capable of doing small trucks, farm-equipment, etc.

Pick up a trucking industry magazine, usually laying in "take one" piles at the fuel desk of truck stops, and they will have a big page ad with a toll free number.

Give them a call and let us know how you come out.

Also, if you can buy a DRW rear-end for $325, need it or not, you better lay it by for emergencies.
