Piston Pump Bomb

I got my piston pump and high flow banjo bolts put in yesterday along with replacing the primary tube going to the VE and replaced the fuel filter. Seat of the pants, it runs smoother, accelerates faster, and even made me look better (so much for seat of the pants), but honestly, I can't tell a big difference as much as wanted to. Maybe it is a little more responsive and maybe it pulls a little harder to the defuel point which didn't seem to change like I thought it might.

When I opened the hood this morning my eye triggered on that new pump and it's wierd angle I did a doubletake. It's going to take some getting used to.

I doubt you're going to see any difference until you get to the point where you've got a combination of pump tweaks and big enough injectors to use the extra fuel it can deliver. What probably goes wrong for some folks is they do all that stuff WITHOUT a better lift pump and then the VE is starving under load.

I'm keeping an eye on my fuel pressure gauge to see where I'm at in that regard. I've done nothing to turn up the fuel on my VE. There is a long hill nearby I can run up WOT in 5th for at least 15 secs and it does not currently drop the pressure at all. That tells me the filter's good and I don't need the piston pump. Yet. I have one, waiting.

My truck is turned up pretty good, check my sig. I haven't run it out to see if there is a noticable difference over a long thrash.

I will say that the truck does "feel" a little more stout over all. Subjective, I know, but.....

No, it has a lower tension pressure spring. It puts out around 15 psi at idle.

Cummins. All the part numbers are in the "tech facts" section of this site.
