Piston lift pump?

My question is, if you have to have a regulator when using a 2nd gen, lift pump to cut down the fuel pressure anyway, then why is It only good for 400 hp? Seems like if your maxed out on fuel pressure that the ve can handle, that a 2nd gen lift pump would be the best you could do for fuel pressure. What am I missing? Anybody have a suggestion for a regulator thats not crazy expensive? Thanks guys.

I thought the low pressure version was good for 400 hp, not the one high pressure version used in the second gens.

Yup. A lot of the high power 2nd gens are still using the stock lift pump. Most people dont try opening up the supply lines with the piston style pumps, and when they upgrade, they put on all large lines, so its not really a fair comparison. Point being, I bet a low pressure piston pump would be good for more than 400 hp if the supply was 3/8" or 1/2"... Even the stock diaphragm style would benefit from bigger lines.
Just my experience.

The problem with the high pressure piston pump is it will push the front seal out of the VE. There have been a couple of guy's that installed a snap ring to help hold the front seal in. Then they found the stock seal itself wouldn't hold the 30 PSI the high pressure pump puts out.
