Parts Truck???

Today drove 10 hours round trip to look at a 1990 D350 gasser for donor parts for my 92 W250 frame off.
Anyway the truck almost seems too nice to eventually use as a sheet metal donor. It was repainted a couple of years ago by the owner and I have not found any cab rust in the usual places.
It has a 360 V8, auto tranny and everything works except for the radio and the odometer. Even the AC still blows cold. It has ~250k.. It is more comfortable to drive than my wife's Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit.

It is in my yard now.

WOW! That is the nicest looking parts truck I have seen....well ever. I have seen a lots of Dodge parts donor trucks too.

I have also bought a few "parts donor" trucks that after I bought them I turned into drivers because they where too nice.

Nice score whatever you end up doing with it

I agree that is one nice looking truck....shame to part it out IMO but necessity sometime dictates taking a path not endorsed by everyone.

I would dispute that. I don't do auto paint. I can mess up a brush job. But I can twist wrenches. I see 5 parts that can swap with a good Cummins diesel and chassis. Voila! Paint job. Nice. Either that or buy a good Cummins and drop it in. What would be involved with that?

I keep thinking...Yeah, I should just keep it and add a nice exhaust system, some Mopar performance accessories.... But then my wife says "You have too many projects already, when will you ever have the time/money for it?"
I agree with edwinsmith on wrenching vs painting.

Dang, that truck is too nice to make a parts truck. Gaskets look too new, I bet someone went through it.

Don't think of it as a parts truck, think of it as the easiest Cummins swap you can do.......... About 12 bolts and a few lines and wires, and voila!

I appreciate all the feed back. So the current plan is to take all the sheet metal from the 90 D350, the drive train from my 92 W250 and mount it all on this frame. I pulled the carpet and the bed liner from the 90 D350 today and the fool looks pretty solid and the bed looks great. I will post up some pics tomorrow.

Here are pics of the floor pan and the bed floor before I washed them.
I really dig the exterior sill step plates. Neither of my 92 W250s, one of them an LE, have them.

Come on!!! There got to be some dents somewhere. All I can see is a spot of rust here and there. Did this truck live in a garage?
