parts?

I`ve got a chance to buy a 92 4x4 auto & am wondering can I get parts? I have an 06 now but just thought I`d buy this old truck. ( just something to tinker with) Will I have a hard time finding parts or is there an after market for them? thank`s

I have found that you can find about any mechanical part, some harder than others. As far as body trim and interior trim parts, here is where it becomes iffy. I would buy it if you like it, in my opinion...Mark

Everything with these trucks is somewhat easily obtainable. Just somethings take a little more searching then others. If it is the right price I would say snag it up you wont be disappointed.

Aftermarket body parts seem to be going away. It's getting to be impossible to find aftermarket radiator supports and complete door shells. Lower door skins that were at the window height are no where to be found. The body parts that normally rust out in the rust belt states are extremely difficult to locate as used in those same states. A lot of those truck bodies have been recycled into the computer case that may be setting on top of your desk. OEM equivalent clutch sets are available but the option of buying the disk by itself has disappeared. Some parts are still supported at the Dodge dealerships but are getting pricey. JC Whitney offers a few aftermarket items but not nearly what was out there in the past.

I've always been an old Chevy truck guy. I've restored a lot of them from the 60s era. I can still walk into the GM dealership and buy tons of parts for 67-72 trucks over the counter. So, it has been a real gut ache to me that Dodge doesn't support these trucks any better. When very few parts are still available for 92 models at the dealership, it makes fixing one up a pain.

thank`s for all the replies. If this truck is all there I might buy it. If I had the $ i would buy it & then buy my buddy`s 93 two wheel drive that is a good solid truck. I haven`t checked with him in awhile but he wanted $2500 a few months ago. If I decide to tackle this I want a 4x4.

As I mentioned previously, did you notice that there are none of the following aftermarket items listed there:
  • Lower door panels;
  • lower door skins repair panels, both inner and outer;
  • complete door shells;
  • rad supports of any style;
  • complete bedside panels;
  • tailgates;
  • cab-front & rear body mount repair channels?
I believe all of those parts have now gone the way of the dinosaur. If you have storage room and plan on keeping your truck for the next 10 or 15 years it might be a good idea to now start accumulating used body parts while they are still available. In my opinion it would be a smart thing to do. Otherwise, our trucks make good cheap donors for 3/4 ton 1980's Chevy and Ford diesel conversions.

Oh, I didn't notice... I had my eyes closed completely Notice the word "few" in the last line of my post. It referenced your point. I agreed with you. IMO, it sucks that the demand for parts dwindled to the point that no one is offering the parts you mentioned... at least not that I've been able to find.

How true.... Does anybody really likes dodge trucks, or do they tolerate them because of the love affair with it's heartbeat.... Personally, I like my truck, although by comparison to the engineering of some of the other brands, it falls short of being breathtaking. I also like simple design, and for me, my Dodge 1st gen fulfills that requirement completely.

Transplanting the heart into another make will become more readily available as new entrepreneurs take on the task of providing that service to folks with the need. I'd do it in a second, if there were no dodges left to work with, although it would be another leaf sprung square box of a truck, as I'm partial to that body style.

Englishtown auction is coming up this summer. I'm sure I'll be able to grab what I need for my bucket of rust flakes.

This place seems to have a lot of body parts. The whole door shells are pretty readily available also...Mark

Good finds guys! My main regret is that I didn't buy a radiator support before they vanished. I bought about 2 of everything else that rots out.

I`m down south & if you look hard 1`st gen body parts are still around. I`m worried about a switch or wiper motor of something. The 92 I`m looking at will be at a sale on the 19th. There`s also an 01. Both 4x4. 01 is a six speed, 92 is auto. I might not buy either but it won`t cost anything to look.
