Parking brake cable length
Parking brake cable length
I've decided to replace the parking brake cables on my truck. They are old and dry and don't release completely so I think replacing them is proper.
RockAuto lists 3 different front cables and I don't know which one I need. They list a 96-1/8", 100" and 123-3/8". Since my truck is a full size dually would I need the longest one or one of the others?
I need to order these to get the job done soon since we are moving to Oklahoma sooner that I thought.
Thanks in advance

I have replaced the left rear cable 4 times. when I got the truck the left cable and looked newer and was seized up so I got a new pair. With in a year the brakes whet out and the trouble was the left rear the cable was sticking and eat the new drum I installed . called dodge and ordered a new set had to gave them the S/N of the truck to order them got the new cables it was the same length as the ones I got at the napa it was a nicer looking cable than the one I was replacing it lasted longer but did the same thing so #3 cable did the same thing at this point I had a Bendix, dodge & Raybestos on the truck I went to the net and dug around found out all the MFG's only make one set of cables and they fit the 2wd and 4wd trucks. So I looked a round the web and called a round count find a cable for the left side that was I think 5" shorter. I called around to places that made custom cables all told me they don't have the brake drum end and wouldn't modify a new cable a little more digging on the net i found a place in LA that would modify my cable so I put the cable back on and marked it as to where I needed it and sent it off a week later I got the cable back in. In the 5 or so years I haven't cable troubles one thing I have trouble is the vent fitting it gets rusty and plugs up then it builds pressure in the housing and the axle seals leak time to clean the vent hope this helps. When you get the cables soak them in a bucket of used engine oil for a couple days before installing them....gets the oil down into cables and the casings and helps them last a bit longer.
I would hope the cables come pre-lubed. I just placed the order from RockAuto but I didn't order the front cable. If it's still to much drag then I'll deal with it when I get the rears done. Also ordered the 3 inch wide shoes and all hardware.
