Parking Brake Help!
Parking Brake Help!
I just finished putting in the new rear 3" wide brake shoes, and 1 1/8" bore wheel cylinders, & new brake hardware. On the left rear brake, I am missing the metal slip shot (or whatever it is called?), which locks the parking brake lead shot to the parking brake lever. I tried to get a replacement part at NAPA, but the sales clerk didn't have a clue to what part I was talking about. Anyone know the correct name for this missing part, or better yet - have a part #?
PS - I tried safety wiring the parking brake shot to the lever, but it didn't work so well.

The round kind can be made from the correct size brass cartridge-casing.
Some cables come with a flat three-sided keeper threaded over the cable, before that lead slug gets crimped on, so it can't get away.
The long coil-spring keeps it pushed against the lever, locking it in place.
A longer piece of thin flat metal can be slotted in such way as to be open on one side, after it is folded around the lever via two 90* bends, with the cable being in the slot and the spring keeping it in place.
I could make one in ten minutes; the trouble is in getting the idea typed in a way that you can envision it.

Hose clamp is a good idea...
Last time i did my brakes(90k ago) I tack welded a little plate on each side of the slot to hold the head of the cable in place....
Just did a rear disk conversion this week. I think my clip is still in the recycle bin... you want me to try to fish it out?

Hey All,
Thanks for all the feedback on my post! A lot of great input
I never would of thought of using a small hose clamp
I had some light gauge sheet laying around, so I fabed up mine own shot clip. Thanks for the part # listing! I will keep that handy.
