Opinions needed about 93' auto?

Ok guys, as some of you know I have had many a Dodge Cummins trucks and many a first gens. But this 93 D250 is the first one I've had with an auto. I must say I like this old truck a lot. Gets the best mileage of any Dodge I've ever had. My question is, if I have the transmission rebuilt and a new torque convertor installed (all Dave Goerand parts) will this old truck pull a 13,000-14,000lb load? I am not concerned about power, I just want to be sure the trans will take it. The trans in it now has never been out of the truck with 147k on the odometer and it is still shifting like new, but the torque convertor is way too loose. Even pulling 5 or 6k with the OD locked out it strugles simply because the convertor is too loose. I am not going to touch the engine, it is completely stock and going to stay that way, I just want to be able to pull 13k without burning up the trans. What do you guys think? Will it be able to do this with a Dave Goreand rebuild and convertor?

well my 92 w250 just turned 174,500 this morning and the trans was rebuilt by a pro in the twin cities (MN)at 60,000 so i was told and i got the truck at 159k all i use is atf+4(amsoil)in it and i haul a 5k lb trailer with two mud trucks on it all throughout the summer all told the truck and trailer weigh in at about 22k and it takes it very well i think, but i do have the tendancy to stand on it from stop light to stop light barking the turbo at the guy next to me and watching the chevys and fords

ps what do you mean your T.Q. is loose do you have a tac in there is it above a certain rpm that its cummin(s) in at? or at speed?

`Luke,

If it was me I would upgrade it to the 47RH, I believe that the 93 was the OD without lockup correct? I think I am right on that point, so the 47RH will add the lockup. I pulled 13,000 trailer with an old dodge with a 727, so I would imagine this would be easy with a diesel.

What I mean is it is not an efficient enough convertor. It is the non-lockup model and it just wastes too much of the engines power.

You are right, it is the 46rh without a lock-up convertor. I don't want to go to all the trouble of the 46rh to 47rh conversion. I wan to keep it original as possible, jus upgrade convertors and rebuild the trans to pull better.

Call dave and have him build you a nice low stall converter and you should be good. Be sure that you have a temp gauge and some good coolers for the oil and you will be fine.

Everything I have heard about Dave makes me think he is the guy to go with. I have a trans temp gauge kit ready to go in, the truck all ready has the factory installed underbed super duty transmission cooler, and I have this that is gonna go on the new trans as well...................

I build a lot of car and truck transmissions for people, and have dealt with some of the big names, both directly and indirectly, all I am gonna say is that Dave is the BEST and nicest man that I have ever had the pleasure of dealing with.

I found that pan in our Mopar Performance parts catalog. My dealer cost was about $170ish if memory serves me, retail on one is around $210 or so. Part number is P5007740AB. It should fit pretty much everything from a 727 3-speed to a 48re I think? It has a drain plug and a temp sensor port. Oh, that brings to mind another question. What is an acceptable temp for the trans when measuring in the pan? I have heard 240 in the output line of the trans but I don't want to cut the factory line so I am gonna put it in the pan. I was thinking 200-220 max in the pan?

I really don't like the pan sender, but I personally wouldn't go past about 200-210.

How do I get Daves Phone number?

Hello guys, I want to build up a new trans for my 75 Dodge D200 Club Cab thats running the 1992 D250 CTD driveline. I don't have time to build it myself and I don't trust any of the answers I'm getting at the local trans shops in Calgary, please can some one hook me up with Dave?
