nv4500 + 3.07's

Anyone running them together? What's it like trying to back up with a trailer? Way too fast?

I'm so used to the 5 speed in the amigo I'm thinking of swapping 4500's into both my Dodge trucks.

I wouldn't even think of a 5 spd with 3:07's.

6 spd or auto is my choice.

I love the 3.07 and NV-4500 in my black crew cab.
I don't use it for towing as I have another truck with 3.54's for that.
The 82 MPH at 2000 RPM is really nice though.
I have it tuned for a great lightly loaded highway cruiser.
I would need to back off the fuel a little to tow heavy with it.
It is FAST and still gets great MPG.

I like the Getrag/3.07

Reverse is FAST backing trailer I always put in 4L no hubs locked

Towing can be a pain 3rd-----------------------------------4th is a long leg

Ive been looking for a 1st gen G56 and the ones I do find they want a big fat arm and a leg then I still got to rebuild it.

Im putting in a GV OD unit see will shorten the 3rd------3od------4th stretch

I liked my getrag and 3.07s in the '89 D250 and I also had an nv4500 and 3:54s in my '92 W350. I think the NV and 3.07 would work fine up to GVW/GCVWR - especially with some MPG getting / power mods above stock like BHAF/4" exhaust , 3200 spring and Valve springs. Spin up in each gear if you need to overcome the splits.

Being 2wd I don't have low range, backing trailers is what worries me.

Backing my trailer 24' boat so the trailer is 26' plus then add 4' for hangs off the back of trailer.

So lets call it a 30'er at the ramp wide open space 2H is not bad.

My land can be like trying to threading a needle where the trailer gets parked.

Thats where I need the 4L also while pulling out of water.

PapeCAT,
Are you swapping in 60 # valve springs still, even with only a 3200 spring?

I was thinking valve float was more of a worry with the 4000 spring.

The 3200 spring helped overcome the jump from 3rd to 4th with the motor de-fueling so early with the stock spring.

I swapped in the springs because I was using an E brake, in the form of a fully closed VGT turbo.

But they are relatively cheap and easy to install with the Tork Tool spring compressor, and don't wear down the cam any more than stock springs, so maybe it would just be peace of mind with 3200. The 3200 with the high idle screw removed and fuel screw cranked would definitely get into borderline RPMs with stock springs, though.

I've thought many times about a G56, but the overall cost to convert the truck over seems to be the same, if not more then a GV unit. And with the GV you take your 5 spd and turn it into a 10 speed. So I share the same plan as you...one day.

What 5sp I only got a 4sp.

All I would get to use 2nd over and 3rd over on the gv
