Could be your lock nut on the idle stop has worked loose?

Maybe your throttle assembly pivot is starting to seize up and is not allowing the throttle to return to the low idle position?

Perhaps the throttle return spring is worn and too weak, or missing?

Heya,

The assembly pivot is working and the spring is bringing it back. With the truck running I pushed the throttle back and it's idling high. Where is this lock nut you speak of? Truck ran fine, just started today. I pulled over for a bit, got about 40 miles to go before I make it home. I'm seriously tooless (mistake mistake!)

It's on the top, toward the head, underneath about everything. The adjustment bolt goes through an upward pointing ear, stops the throttle linkage, and is kept by a jam nut, 10mm wrench size.

If it's loose, you should be able to turn it with a screwdriver or even your fingers. The problem is getting fingers in there.

I'd also check the full fuel screw on the back of the pump.

If it appears to be locked down, I would not drive it. I would have it towed. I would suspect the throttle linkage is coming apart inside and may jam at full throttle.

I carry Good Sam Roadside Assist, so such a scenario isn't a big expense to me. Main reason I carry it is so I don't have to try to hand handle 400 ft/lb lug nuts and heavy rubber under dangerous conditions. Came in pretty handy when DW sheared the flex plate.

Thanks guys, found the idle bolt and notice no nuts on it. I was able to turn it by hand. Off to get some bolts. Thanks again!
