Question NON IC truck, adding intercooler...

If i add an intercooler to my truck, will i also need to add a wastegated turbo housing???
I have an HTT stage lll, and an hitting 42 psi boost with the baby H1C turbo., I am thinking that if i add an intercooler, I will be running a more dense boost, and although my boost #s will drop a bit, My cylinder pressure will actually rise quite a bit.
Any suggestions????
Peter.

first of all 42lb is WAYYYY out of the efficiency of the h1c.... adding an IC doesn't mean you need a WG housing.
More boost does NOT mean more power
inefficient hot boost doesn't do anything for you.

Just a thought... a fellow on the yahoo 4bt forums lost power by adding an intercooler to his 4bt engine. Unless you tow, you may not see much benefit and in some cases may loose power by adding the extra restriction/volume for the turbo to fill. I think you would see more benefit just getting a more efficient turbo than in ic.

Mabey i wasent clear, I had an H1C, But added the HTT stage lll kit to it to bring the turbo into a safer range,
My power went up, and my egt dropped from pinning 1500* to about 1200* at wide open, My boost #s dropped a bit too!
Thinking now about the intercooler.

Do you have smoke? I don't see why you would want an intercooler if your EGT's are only hitting 1200.

With the fuel where it is now, I wouldn't expect you to need a wastegated housing. You'll drop somewhere between 3 and 5 psi with the intercooler, which puts you right where you want to be with an HTT compressor.

No smoke in higher rpms, Just a fine black haze! It seems as though i am balanced pretty good for air/fuel ratio, But i am thinking about a bit more power without going with new injectors.
