adding cruise to a non cruise truck.
What is the best way to add cruise to my strippo truck? aftermarket or retrofit the factory components? I wonder how much wiring is in the truck already?

If your steering column did not originally have cruise then you will have to change the clockspring behind the steering wheel.
Also check under the dr.side batt box for a 4 wire connector, If its there then you may not have too many problems getting it hooked up. Dont know if the computer is the same for cruise and non cruise though.

The wiring is there for the unit under the battery. I have a stearing wheel with the controls coming. I wonder if there is a control modual somewhere under the dash?

The cruise control module on a stock truck is part of the PCM (powertrain control module).
Whether they used a different PCM for the striped down rigs I have no idea.
If there is a good partsman at your local dealer he might be able to tell you.
