New Respect for 1ST Gen

All of you 1st Gen owners may have more faith in your truck after you hear this story! I was in New Jersey recently to help work on a sailboat and had driven my 1993 D250 from SW Florida to Sanford to pick up Auto Train. The truck was loaded full of tools. The trip up was uneventful,no issues.
Now I had a 31ft Fifth Wheel Rv that a shipper was supposed to take back to Florida but fell through. I had to leave and I had to get that trailer back. I didnt think the old Dodge would do it. I didnt have a choice but to hook up and go.This truck has 280K on the clock. I was sweating bullets but the old Dodge worked hard, but ran like a champ and averaged 15.4 mpg too. This truck just amazes me. 1300 miles with trailer in tow. No Problem.

That 5th shouldn't even make a dent in your 1st gen's capability. Get under the pin and get up on it.

I wouldn't hesitate to hook up to any trailer, and load the snot out of it and then hual it across the country with my crewcab.

I like CJguy's quote in his signature over on the CF forum....

If you're careful, and don't beat on it, the drivetrain in these trucks should be able to accomplish most tasks. It's when you beat the snot out of it, you blow the spider gears, U joints or transmission up just when you need it most.

(notice I mentioned nothing about the engine failing)

Thanks for sharing.

yep, as the rest said, my 1st gen is the last thing i worry about when it comes to reliability. i've taken 3 x 2000 mile trips in the past 6 months in my 1st gen. the last time was with a ~10,000 lb load.

I just returned from a trip from Florida to Oregon and back with mine, 6,000 miles total. I towed my 1967 Mustang from my inlaws house in Oregon back to Florida with not one problem. I have 260,000 miles on it now but it still runs like new.
