Mayden towing trip with all the new mod's

well it went well but i now know i need to flush my coolant and possibly get a fan for the front of the RAD.

it would climb to the 2/3 make on the temp gauge if i held it floord to 2500 rpms pulling 6-7 percent grades towing roughly 6-7k lbs.

boost only went to 23 max from what i could see and my temps never topped 1180.

trany topped at 200 couple of times.

my concers was the engine temp. my fan did come on and work properlly.

speed was roughly 50-60 as i would back out abit to get engine temp back down towing in O/D
over all i am very impressed. just dont want over heat my motor and kill it sooner thanneeded.

Did you go up icehouse or what?? When i head up grades like 50 or icehouse, i can peg my pyro on demand pretty much. On grades i mostly let it sit right at 1200*.
Did you just turn in your screw or did you also spin your afc??
When i turned mine in and messed with the afc, i noticed a pretty big difference in towing a trailer. I went from being able to do like 55 up to the con. To bein able to do like 70. But some of the long hills i have to let off because my EGT temps hit1200, i usually back off to 65 mph.
My motor tempature never really gets hot. I can run the ac all day long up hills and it barely hits the secont mark on the temp guage.

BTW jimmy i live in sac right now, i go to sac state. I saw you the other day on watt/northrop, kinda near where i live. Im fully jealous of the colors of your truck that is the color i wanted but didnt find a deal on one. Nice rig.

IAN, SICK i live off watt and pope (near whitney and marconi).
(i went to fordyce so i was cruising hwy 80)

i just turn in teh fuel screw abit (1.5 turns) and of course the other mods. i have touched the pump otherwise.

and my 2/3's on teh temp gauge i mean about 1-2 oclock as the needs sits. is that HOTT or OK. cuz around town unloaded it never gets past the 10-11 oclock mark.

Hey Jimmy, my FSM says 2/3 on the temp gauge is normal in hot weather on a steep grade while towing. It's not a bad idea to flush the cooling system, but don't be surprised if you need a new radiator afterwards. A lot of times the crud is all that's holding the coolant in on an old truck. I don't think you'll need a pusher fan with a clean cooling system. Also, did you ever get that auxilliary trans cooler installed? That'll help with temps because the trans is dumping a lot of heat into the water through the heat exchanger on the side of the block.

never did get the extra trany cooler, it is on the list of goodes to buy though. good to hear that the 2nd tic on the temp gauge is OK. id pulling the hill in the fast lane and it would just slowly climb to there hit the half mark and the fan would kick on and i would kick it out of OD and into D and just take it easy on the ol girl. id crest the grade and things would come back down . very nice to accelerate the whol grade though. jiMMy

Flush your radiators from the BACK side. That's what cooled mine down.
