Are you talking about the one in my sig? A previous owner did a hack job on mine, it's a very non-traditional grind. The profile is stock, but the ramp was extended up past where the fuel pin would normally ride, and the nylon spacer washer that limits travel was removed.

I think it's a good setup for a truck with big injectors. When you have POD's or similar your focus changes from trying to get a lot of fuel to get the turbo spooled to trying to delay the fuel until the turbo spools.

Lorydrell, for your stock truck a more traditional grind (more fuel sooner) would be a better setup.

 

Hey Dave, do you think the cone bottoms out before the pin can ride the entire profile...even without the washer?

 

Yes. You can't see the wear mark real well in the pic, but it only goes to about even with the "step" where the stock profile starts.

 

Hi Dave, I just gave my pin a very light grind. With full fuel, star wheel down, and full in on fuel adj,I get 30 lbs boost and it feels a lot more powerful. Ilike it a lot better. It seems to run with a 99 powerstroke. Thanks for all the help

no pics I turned the pin 90 degrees from the deep side and ground it to the same depth plus about .020 as the same as if it was turned to the full fuel side plus more clearance at the top for full pin travel. My taper only goes about 3/8" down from the top. It might not be enough, but can be turned back if not satisfied.

 

I did the same thing in mine, as I am happy with my bottom end fuel, just wanted more as it came on. I took mine to about the 75% lean side, and started my grind about halfway up, angling in a hair more, to get to about what full fuel would be on the deep side, plus a goodly amount. Took a little less than half the neck away. Any more than that, and I fear it would break off inside the housing, virtually eliminating the AFC function.

My pump will now run with a 99PSD if I unhook the AFC hose.

Diesel Dynamics (now Edge, i believe) had a fuel pin several years ago,and it had a 2 stage taper. Only problem was, though it did cut bottom end smoke, it also cut top end fuelling, as it wasnt offset like the stock pin. I based my grind off a combination of their profile and Old Smoky's pin profile. It is truly a custom job, one of a kind. I just need softer spring. I also ditched the nylon washer. Figure if it was good enough for DD, it was good enough for me.
