Lift Pump

My lift pump came today from cummins, this one is working.. the other pump I have is not even working.

Should I put grease on the lift that goes into the block? I don't want to score the cam, I believe that is what works the lift pump?

Always a good practice to put some form of assembly lube on cam lever.

Dab of motor oil would suffice. I wouldn't use grease

Well the pump is on and the truck runs like crazy. When I pulled up there was about five gallons of diesel in my drive way. I'm leaking diesel around where the fuel filter is. On top of that there is a plastic spacer?

I took the fuel filter off and the bolt came out in my fuel filter. I took the bolt out and then put it back into the plastic piece. There is a slot in the bolt so I took some steel, slide it in and with some plyers screwed it down tight. Put everything back on and the diesel is pouring out. There is a round seal up there it feels like, is there a special tool I need to put more ft lbs on the bolt. The seal looks good.

Note, it's leaking around the fuel heater. The top part.

Maybe cracked the fuel heater. Are you sure the old filter gasket didn't get left on there.

I'll try and take the gasket off tonight. It felt hard when I touched it, I'll have to look over the fuel heater and see if it is cracked. I called cummins and they want $107 for the fuel heater and $13 for the gasket. That is a bit much I think, Geno's has the gasket so I'll order it from them and get it overnighted.

Is there a place I can find the heater if it's busted? I'm thinking it's okay, let me know. If not I'll have to save and buy it from cummins.

Cummins called me back and they no longer have the fuel heaters. They recommended a delete which is a short plug.

Ah, looks like you can mod a 2nd gen heater. I think my original heater is okay, I'll have to see tonight.

Okay, took the filter back off and took the heater off. It looks brand new, there is no cracks in it. The gasket might be bad, if you look at the fuel heater and where the gasket seats, it's flush to the fuel heater. Should be sitting higher than the fueal heater to actually make the seal. I had the seal overnight from genos (nice people) and it will be here today. If this doesn't work then I also bought the short plug so I can remove the fuel heater and thread the fuel filter right to the head.

Everything is fixed, my seal shrank up on me. I must have been driving the truck with a bad lift pump for awhile. Holy COW do I have some power now. @ 30PSI of boost with the pedal mashed to the floor it will rip from 60 to 80 like nothing.

Usually I would top out at 70mph.. I thought that was normal hahaha. I was actually starving my IP of fuel.. yikes.

I used a flat washer in a pair of vice grips to screw my filter stud out and back in. I think it's a 1036 NAPA filter that you can take the gasket off of to replace the leaking original with.

Thank you for that info...my pre-heater on my new truck came loose when I removed the 5 year old fuel filter. Now it leaks when running. Was wondering what I was gong to do about a new gasket.
