Re:KDP ???

Look here. I did mine and 2 others with the jig kit from Harold. His jig comes in at an angle so you don't need to pull the alternator, just the fan and fan hub, and you can take a pin punch and a hammer and whack on the KDP to make sure it's in good. Worked nice, mine and one other was out a bit, 3rd was tight. 2 out of 3 seems scary to me. I think most of them come out part way and never work all the way out. I sleep better now, though.

Re:KDP ???

Yep. If you haven't dealt with it by late August, I'll be visiting my parents in Downers Grove. BTW, an 8.3 Cummins in a truck at work had this happen late last year, so it's not just a 5.9 thing.

Re:KDP ???

So where can i get one of these fix kits or can I fab something up to fix it? And is there any instructions on how to do this? I am fairly mechanically inclined, and have a shop to do it in, but I am new to this subject.
Thanks,
Brian

Re:KDP ???

If you feel like pulling the timing cover off the motor, you can tab the pin or peen the case over it with a punch, supposedly takes a first timer about 4 hours. Or you can get a jig kit from Harold for around $90, which includes literally everything you'll need except a drill, a breaker bar to pull the fan belt, and a 10mm wrench for the bolts on the fan hub. He includes the wrenches you need to get the fan off the hub. It really is a sweet setup, I've done 4 trucks so far. First one took an hour and a half from pulling the truck in the driveway to putting away the last tool, they've gotten faster as I've done them. Harold's e-mail is rvhvnfn@juno.com

Re:KDP ???

The link on the first reply to my question realy clears up any questions about KDP. I plan on removing my timming cover and tabbing the pin on mine, but the front clip is off my truck now anyway so it wont be that time consuming.

Re:KDP ???

Make sure that the bolt next to the KDP is tight. Talking to Piers that is more of a problem than the KDP on first gen engines.
