KDP and Oil Leak

If you have an oil leak at the timing cover does that mean the gear housing definately cracked? Or does it just mean the KDP is loose and needs repaired? Has anyone every tried to replace the gear housing by welding or any other means? Thank you for help !

Adam

Re:KDP and Oil Leak

Doesn't necessarily mean either. Mine had a leak from the timing cover gasket and seal. Bolts on cover were not up to torque when I bought the truck. Tabbed the KDP (hadn't moved), new gasket and seal and it hasn't seeped since. Took some time but well worth it. Check out the tab repair instructions and it will tell you where you need to look to usually find a crack. Worth the time to tear it all apart and know for sure!
