Installing the 16cm housing

I am ready to install my 16cm housing I got from turbosupply ($116.19 shipped!) and have a few questions. Does it matter which way the lock bars hold the exhaust housing on. If they are vertical or horizontal, I don't think it matters, probably a stupid question. Man that oil drain gasket was really on there!! I took my manifold off also to put new gaskets on and drill for the pyrometer. The front gasket was deformed and leaking towards the front. I went to the local diesel repair place for parts and got the wrong exhaust manifold gaskets ,pn 3929012 was $6.76 each, ouch. How much should the correct ones be? Any advice appreciated.

The orentation of the lock bars in unimportant.

It's fun scraping that gasket off, isn't it? It's almost as hard as flint.

I've been loosening the clamps at the base of the oil return tube and pulling the turbo with it attached.

Not trying to highjack the thread but I have a related question for Dave. When you had your 12 cm housing did you have any clearance issues with the firewall? I have a wastegated 12cm and my downpipe heatshield is right against the rubber cover on the firewall. Nothing melted so far but it makes me nervous.

I also loosened the drain tube at the hose clamp. If your drain tube doesnt leak, than dont disconnect it at the flange, disconnect it at the drain hose down low. I only know this from experience. Those gaskets get brittle and are impossible to get off without a angle head die grinder with a 2" scotch-brite pad.
By the way, that is the best price I have seen on an exhaust housing, good job.

It's tight back there. My downpipe is about an inch shorter than stock, and the heat shield is touching the insulation. The heat shield must work, though because the insulation hasn't melted.

I don't have a heat shield on mine. I converted from the 18 cm non-wg to the 12 cm wg so I have about 1/2 inch clearance. so far no trouble with it.
