broken plunger return springs or a flat injection pump cam plate, the only two i can personaly relate to. pull the top, suck the diesel out with a siringe and a small hose, examine the cam and return springs in the pump, a broken plunger return spring will make the cam cockeyed in there and you can see carnage. i dont know how familiar you are with the pump internals but i think you could figure it out. it will idle fine, but will miss under no load off idle, mine would run perfect under load but would free rev for nothing

the broken return springs yes, a flat cam would make you loose power gradualy and you would notice it over time, broken return springs can cause a flat cam because they get pounded out by running crooked. by crankin that full load screw, it doest give the return springs relief and it put a great deal of more strain on the return springs and the cam, eventualy something has to give, a chip off the cam would be instant and would cause problems if it went through the pump, mine chipped a cam plate and lodged it in the advance piston where it seized it. therefore not advancing the timing with more rpm. im not saying turn it down, but be aware there are consequences to more fuel pressure through a pump in my opionion is not capable of handling it reliably.

Well I got the pump off today and mostly taken apart, and nothing looks broken or worn. When I pulled the delivery valves every one of them had rubber chunks in them.

mine does this but only losses power with load, 45mph+ or 3rd gear high rpm it will run out of power.

it will go 55 -60 on flat ground but hit a hill and you have to back out of it, or it will blow white smoke.

rubber stuck where it should not have been, works now but will not shut off with the key, time for a new plunger on the solinoid. its already been sanded.

Mine did this more than a month ago. It just sputtered and died, acted like it ran out of fuel, I thought I was gelled up but it was pretty warm and was fine but I got it running again and idled fine then sputtered and died again right after I put it in gear. I could barely get it to run but had to bleed injectors each time to get it to run. I thought my lift pump took a dump. So now I'm redoing the whole fuel system (still torn apart) and the other day I found that the supply fitting going into the VE pump was a little loose, so it was sucking air sometimes and wouldn't run. But I needed to redo fuel system anway so its okay. I think you may be sucking air somewhere still.

Mine wasn't sucking air, something broke in the injection pump. I replaced it with a new (to me) pump, and it's been fine ever since.
