So what did you find.. I had this problem a couple of weeks ago, after I had let my truck sit in the shop for 3 weeks while getting the AC fixed, inspection and some other stuff.. When I got it back I must have had a build up of water in the fuel tank.. Changed the fuel filter and after the 3rd start she runs like new again.. Got to love the Cummins..

had 12-13psi fuel press. no codes with scan tool, changed filter, and it still white smokes a lot and starts missing around 1300 rpms. i went through and bled the injector lines and it will now rev alittle better but not much and it misses and smokes bad. so im not sure what to do now. thanks anyone!

Might be injectors or VP 44 issue. Sounds like injector could be culprit since you have nocked out most of the easy stuff.

it could be your Vp 44 they can still go bad with out throwing a code But first I would check all your wires and grounds a bad connection can cause you grief
Has the truck ever done anything weird or out of the ordinary before?

just bought the truck for a prodject, it didnt run very good, i just cant get the miss to go away and it wont hardly rev up, it will rev up to around 2200, but sounds horible. is there a way to check the injection pump press. or the injectors? im gonna get another gauge and check fuel press. again just to make sure, i did get a code out of the truck when using the "key switch" it was for the fuel level sens but i dont think that would cause my problem, or maybe

you can pull the injectors and take them to a shop and pop test them .also when its running crack the injector line 1 at a time see if you can isolate the miss to a cylinder . see if it looks like your getting the same amount of fuel at each hole and If you haven't already, unplug any programmers on it ,that might be causing it

i already cracked injectors one at a time and i do think that number two wasnt getting as much fuel as the rest, but when i cracked it the cylinder still dropped, i really think my vp44 is going bad, but i guess theres no good way to test it? is there?

i dont know if it will matter but for some odd reason i am thinking you should look below the fue filter and there is a bleeder and crack that and get some diesel in a clear (clean cup) and see if it has any water.... other than that i would say that the vp444 can be the prob... let me know what you come up with on the cup issue....
