HX35W on 93 Cummins

My son wanted to put a hx35w on his beautiful 1st gen truck that I bought him on his 16th birthday, so I ordered one and installed it tonight. Everything is totally stock on the motor except for the turbo. Question is will it help the truck in anyway? Do we have to worry about EGTs or to much boost? Also it has a 14cm housing. Thanks any info will be appreciated!

It will spool faster.

I doubt you can get the EGTs high enough to worry about with stock injectors.

I agree...it will spool a bit faster and build a bit more boost but with the motor being all stock settings you shouldn't have to worry too much.

Thanks y’all exactly what I wanted to hear, especially without any guages on the truck. I would like to get the truck to about 275-300hp, so next question is what size injectors should I go with and which brand? Also, can I put larger injectors without tweaking the pump first for more fuel? Thanks again

Uh Oh! It seems that you are sliding down the slippery slope, first it's a turbo, then injectors, then exhaust, then pump, well you get the idea. Don't worry though, it happens to everybody. welcome to the jungle...Mark

Now that is a very nice looking truck!!

I would do all the free mods first before doing injectors. 3200 (366) Gov spring, fuel pin or turn the stock one to deep side (heard Erik at the Hungry Diesel has a good pin), open up the air cleaner so it can breath a bit easier, turn the fuel screw in 1.5 - 2 turns, and a HVLP piston lift pump. Even a 4" exhaust system would help with the breathing. You'd probably be pretty happy with the results.

I would agree with Thrashing 100%.
Do the free / super cheap mods, and I bet you will learn that you likely don't need bigger injectors.

ADD gauges FIRST though.

Awesome looking truck!
