Turbo Question H1C and HX35W

Hello,
Im not a diesel guy let alone own one so hopefully you guys can help me out. Im wondering what is the bolt patturn for the exhaust to manifold flange on a H1C turbo off a 90' dodge truck. If its the same as a normal HX35 then thats what im looking for. I just want to make sure that the turbo im looking to buy will work for me. Thanks
Dave

Re:Turbo Question H1C and HX35W

The flanges are the same. But there are some differences you should be aware of. As far as the HX35 is concerned, there are a few variables here. If you have a non-intercooled truck (your '90 is not intercooled), it will require some modifications to the intake system to get it to fit. The inlet to the turbo is 3" on yours and it is 4" on the HX35. Also, the outlet on yours is a hose connection, on the HX35 it is a v-band flange arrangement that conects to the outlet elbow. It is a direct bolt on for the intercooled trucks. The HX35 will fit 12cm, 14cm, 16cm, 18.5cm and 21cm housings. You can change just the center section / compressor assembly and use your existing exhaust housing or change the entire turbo. If you go with a wastegated exhaust housing, then the downpipe will have to be shortened a bit. The stock housing for the HX35's on the 2nd gen trucks is a wastegated 12cm.

Cheers,
Sean

Here's a pic of an HX35. I'm running one of these on my truck and it's worked out great ;D

Re:Turbo Question H1C and HX35W

May I ask why you are putting this unit on a gas engine? Did you do research on the housing A/R ratios and turbin pitch? Will this turbo function within it's map for this application? I'm thinking, if this gas engine is big enough (cu.in.) to spool this turbo up, it may blow the heads off or knock the rods out the pan. Plus, this is a very heavy unit.

just interested

Re:Turbo Question H1C and HX35W

I know of a guy with turbo'd mustang that runs the HX35. He runs a dyno in Calgary and was interested in the aftermarket trim of the HX hybrids.. I was also surprised to find out they use that turbo. I guess its common knowledge... ???
