I wired mine up hot all the time. No key needed to roll the windows up anymore.

Can be done yes. I don't know if you would gain anything. You will gain speed by running a wire ( I used 10 gauge ) from the battery to the fuse box and taking the windows off of the key. If you do this don't forget to put a fuse close to the battery supply.

When I did mine in stead of going behind the fuse panel I got a mail spade terminal and file it down enough to fit in the fuse panel. Mike

i think you would need three relays though right? arnt our window motors switchable polarity motors. (like a winch on a truck) two wires...one ground one hot they just reverse between hot and ground depending on up and down'? as in example hot is ground on way up ground is hot on way down?

That is the way the motors work, but you just run one hot wire to the switches.

I ran a large hot wire on a self-resetting circuit breaker straight from the battery, bypassed the panel, and wow do they go up quick now....as a back-up, there is also a thermal switch built into the motor itself in case it gets a little hot, but I haven't had a problem in 5 years....

Big John,
Godspeed on beating the monster.

I took my window motor feed off the ignition circuit and connected it to my 6-gauge constant feed directly from the battery, this alone will make the windows work faster.

If you want to put your window motors on relays what I would do is run a 12-10-gauge (+) and (-) wire into each door and then add polarity reversing relays to each motor, you could then use diodes to trigger the proper relay so you could use your stock switches, this way all of the current is being switched at the motor.

The high torque series wound motors of the early years could easily draw 20-30 amps during operation, in those days you could hold the bottom and as soon at the window hit the stop your lights would dim, if you held them long enough the internal breaker would trip.

Jim

I think you could do it with two relays per door.

On each door-
1 run a lead from the battery
2 cut the wires to the motor. Connect each one to the single-terminal side of its own relay
3 connect the power lead from the battery to the terminal of the relay that the relay switches to when triggered
4 connect the default terminal of the relay to ground, along with the relay's ground terminal
5 connect the wire from the switch to the terminal on the relay that triggers the relay.

Basically, do this with every wire that connects to the window motors.
