High Idle
High Idle
Hi guys - I have a '93 250 EC auto 2wd with no mods. I am having a little problem with idling. Occasionally it will "idle up", so when I'm driving around town it seems like the engine is racing. I don't have a tach, so I can't say what it runs at. It doesn't always do it, and sometimes if I put it in neutral and give it a kick, she will idle down. Any suggestions?
Also, I am wondering if anyone can suggest tweaks for ideal mileage/power. (I often pull a holiday trailer).
One last comment - the passenger seat (I have buckets) is not adjustable - what a pain in the butt. Anyone done anything to fix this "problem"?

It sounds like the throttle linkage is sticking. The prime suspect is the bellcrank, sometimes the shaft gets rusty and binds in the bushings. The bellcrank is the part that takes the accelerator cable motion and transfers it to the linkage on the injector pump. Pop the plastic ball end for the linkage off the bellcrank and work the bellcrank by had to see if it's binding. If that's it, pull the throttle bracket off the side of the engine (2 nuts and 1 bolt) and you'll see how to take the bellcrank out. Clean the shaft up with some fine sandpaper, polish it with your favorite metal polish, grease lightly and reinstall.
Some of my friends and family members are - shall we say "circumferentially challenged"
- and the seat belt is too short, so you're not the only one with the problem.
