HELP!! turbo issues!
HELP!! turbo issues!
we were driving to get a christmas tree and when i accelerated from a stop i got no boost pressure and a loud whine. it sounds like a jet engine from the exhaust pipe and tons of smoke. i dont have access to my tools to look at the inside of the turbo but i noticed some black soot around the oil inlet for the turbo. any ideas? thanks in advance
Sounds like your bearings are gone. I had the same thing happen to my hy35 i had on my truck. It made a loud whine and had no boost. I pulled the intake off and looked at the turbo and the compressor wheel was rubbing against the housing.
Take the intake off and take a look at the turbo, it probably has a lot of shaft play, you can even start it up for a minute with the intake off and see if the turbo is turnin. But you probably need a new turbo. good luck though!

i looked at all the boots and they looked ok. i could hear lots of the noise coming from the exhaust side of the turbo. what would cause the pac brake to stay on? could that have been caused by the occasional low vacuum issue i am having? i did try to use my pac brake about 20 mins earlier and it did not want work. what would be the result of a stuck on pac brake? thanks
no boom at all. i stopped to get a christmas tree and left the truck running and when i took off there was no boost and lost of whine and smoke.

one more thing, i dont think this has anything to do with it but what do i know. i just did an oil change earlier yesterday and switched from 15-40 rotella to 5-40 synthetic. it felt great until my turbo stopped working. i had very little power and lots of noise and smoke.
" and the winna' " ^^^ this morning i went to take a look in the day light and everything looked normal except the sooty residue on the turbo. so i started it up and it sounded normal! so i watched it run for a while and i noticed the piston for the pac brake extending very slowly and i started to hear that loud noise. it was switched off but was slowly turning on anyway. could this be because of the vacuum leak i have? my brakes go stiff often now too. im sorta cornfused and could use some advice. for now i just pulled the hose from the vacuum line and plugged it.
