Any issues with running an air filter directly to your turbo with no box?

They dont really make a pro dry in the size I need to run on my BD twns. The filter I recieved is much larger, which I like because it may flow a little more volume. But my question is the only way I can make it fit is remove the shield and run the filter in the engine bay with no box to shield out heat and debrie. Is this an issue for an everyday driver, or will I just need to clean my filter more often? Also it turns up beside the passenger battery, so I have no clue if rainwater kicking up would be an issue.

Im not running a box, havent had any more dirt than normal, temps arent any higher, and no issues with water, even driving thru some high water from all the storms weve had lately...

I may build a little heat sheild for it later, but for now its working fine with no issues...

Thanks for the reply, and pics. I also just checked out Luvnacumns post with pics on his twins from Nathan and they have no box. And if its good enough for his twins, and you guys set ups it will be fine for me.

When I had twins, i had an AFE sitting there exposed to the elements. It got nasty really fast and was just about to self destruct.

I dont know if you want to run one or not but a prefilter will help repell water. The only reason I run a prefilter is to keep the big stuff out, and I usually clean it once before I take the filter out and clean it.

Kinda on the same subject ...I need a good DRY air filter for my AFE TORQUE TUBE AND STOCK AIRBOX... I have been using K&N ...but I really don't like seeing 'oil' on my turbine(turbo) blades...
