what is the best drop in air filter for the stock air box
I have an 07 5.9 and was thinking of adding a K and N or Tru FLow. I wasn't planning on putting a cold air intake but just a better filter for better flow. Do you all have any suggestions? Does the oil from a K&N hurt the turbo at all?
Thanks

As tight that the 3 gen injector openings are, I wouldn't risk passing dusted oil residue through them. There are finer micron filters that are drop in rather than a K&N. You might look into the Amsoil nanofiber stock replacement filters. They drop right in to the stock airbox, and you can easily blow them out with low psi compressed air. JMO

I'm using the AFE PG7 drop in. No intake dust to date, but this thing hasn't seen much offroading. The stockers through Geno's garage are cheap and disposable.

I wasted money on the kn only to be told by alot of diesel drivers not to touch them with a 10 ft pole!
But I also wouldnt use the generic filters you buy at the oil change shops either. I did that..and 3 wks later it was mangled. They are generic sizes, who knows that size might also fit a 94 buick. The filter was pulled in the center like it was being sucked in. They arent made strong enough for the cummins engine thats for sure. Luckily I checked the filter before any damage was done. Goy my money back and huge apologies. I just stick with buying my filters at the dealer and changing them myself.

My Afe passed the packed snow test a couple of weeks ago. Packed the OEM airbox and sucked the PSM cool blue hose flat, but the filter with it's expanded aluminum reinforcment didn't give a millimeter.

Advocate of getting the ban button used on him...
I am very happy with the amsoil eaa189 nano fiber filter. I drive in very dusty conditions during the spring time and so far not one bit of dust post filter. I have just over 40k miles on it and not an ounce of trouble.

I have about 30k miles on my true flow....it's very similiar to the UNI's i use in my offroad bikes, so i have confidence on it's filtering ability...it's been a good filter, and i'd buy it again....used with the psm intake (or homemade version), you can get some good flow to the motor....supports my mod's so far....

I have an AFE drop in, been running it for 5 year now and clean it on every oil change. Not one problem. If I were to buy a new one I would get the AFE cone shaped one that is a drop in.

I've got an AFE drop in oil free, not the PG7 and would say that it's ok but I am looking into something differant as I've noticed micro dust residue on back side of filter. Oil test say everything is great but long term not thinking so. So I'm looking into Amsoil or true flow.
