Getreg Yoke
Hi Guys Well I got the drive line off so I could check and tighten the yoke nut. I realy could use a speedo.
Not to much trouble Just cost $70 bucks for a fancy easyout set to get one bolt out. So now I need more help.
The nut seems to be 1 3/16 but I am wondering if it is metric if so what size?
What is the torque for this nut?
I want to over fill the tranny if I change to Synthetic is there any thing special to do and is it a good idea in a 1992?
Thanks

1 3/16ths (1.1825) converts to 30.0355mm torqued to 255 lb/ft (380Nm)
As far as filling with synthetic I feel the easest and cleanest way is to remove the shift lever. just pull the boots and then remove the snap ring at the base of the lever an pull up. No mess or lying on your back squeezing the crap out of a container of oil trying to get it through that little hole. There are other ways but i like this one. Oh, and yes it is a good idea to change to synthetic and over fill by 1-1.5 qts (.9463-1.419 Ltr) PM me and I will send you the complete Getrag section out of the service manual

Since your truck is 2wd, it's easy to replace the fill plug with an elbow and overfill the trans by simply using a funnel. Plenty of room under there on a 2wd, much less hassle than pulling the shifter.

I wouldn't bother with rinsing. Take the truck for a good run to get the trans hot, then let it drain for an hour or until it stops dripping. You'll get pretty near all of the old oil out, and it's not like it's going to ruin the synthetic to have a couple of ounces of the old oil mixed in.

Re:Getreg Yoke
As long as you are draining it I would recomend pulling one of the side covers and with the trans in neutral try prying the countershaft and mainshafts forward and backward. There should be no play, both shafts are preloaded.

I seem to recall using a 30mm socket on that sucker.. What the bolt out from Can tire wouldn't work? .
Ya, on the 2wd don't bother pulling the shift lever unless you really can't get the side plug out. My 89 had a seized plug and I had to fill it that way, not fun. I don't use an elbow, but use a squirt tip from a gear oil container, then cover the hole with my finger and squirt in the extra oil and quickly put the plug in. :-
If you are worried about residual dyno oil, well I don't know if you can avoid that as the tranny sits on a little bit of an angle in the truck and the rear of the tranny might hold a splash of the old lube. The ratio of the new oil to the old should be high enough not to matter.
