The Dodge tranny tech that I talked to several years ago about this said 5w-30 motor oil was correct for the Getrag.

Hey man! You need to chill out. Most of us are working when you asked!

I put Rotella HD Synthetic in mine, 5w-30. I got a deal as I bought a case versus buying some for my truck and then a little more for the tranny.

When in search for answers ALWAYS check the STICKY!!
https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...d.php?t=141280

Even if it isnt EXACTLY what your looking for it may have some reference to what you are looking for.

Yes, the getrag uses regular 'ol 5w-30 motor oil. I used Mobil 1 5w-30 full synthetic in mine, HUGE difference in the shifting of it.

Synthetic is a good idea. I use Amsoil because my parents next door neighbor is an Amsoil distributor, but any name brand synthetic should work well.

First off, sorry for the rash nature of posting yesterday. I was in a hurry and then the wife was jumping down my throat about some emergency and I had already been around to all the parts stores. I saw that at least 4-5 1st gen guys were on and they even looked at the post (# views) but nobody was chiming in. Plus there was over 500 guys on at that point And I know they check the new posts, hoping someone would know in a hurry. Sorry!!

Now, I did check the STICKY! I checked the getrag section unless it was posted up in the general info (which I didn't check, if its their then I am an Idiot!) I also did a search on "getrag oil", "getrag", "Mobil 1" nothing I could see, pointed to whether it was "good ole" motor oil or some specialty oil I had never seen before.

So, I had to abandon my "searching" until last night when I read your answers. Aren't family emergency's great! But I have the oil and am about to commence the changing. I will post a new thread on the results.

One more oil question, Will any other light weight synthetic work in the GETRAG? For example, syn-tech, valvoline, quaker state, pennzoil? Any body have any experience? No rush on this one guys!

PS Did the server go down yesterday in the morning right as I was leaving I got kicked out and I coudn't get back, no search engine result would let me back or my favs link? any ideas?

Yes, any synthetic motor oil will do fine. Even regular old 5W-30 will work for a while until it shears down. I suggest Mobil 1 because it is readily available and is a true synthetic, unlike the others you mentioned. ATF (synthetic or not) is also a good option, but I like the specialty trans oils like Royal Purple Synchromax and Redline MTL the best for a play truck/daily driver. For a hard working tow rig the Mobil 1 is the way to go, it will hold up the best and run the coolest.

I think Jack had the site down for maintenance.

Well didn't get to it! Got corralled by my dad this time! Oh well service with a smile, if you have done it unto the least of these, Christmas spirit and all. You know the drill. Hope to get to it on Monday. Don't work on Sundays.
