gas or diesel tank

I was wondering if i can use the 30 gallon gas tank that is on a crewcab for a diesel tank. I have a person interested in my diesel tank and i need to know if i can use the tank that is already on the crewcab.

As long as you clean it out to make sure the gas is all out of it you should be fine. The only thing I could see is if the Sender is different but it all depends what dash you are using. Then again that might not matter and if need be you can use a "draw straw" for the feed to the lift pump.

The fuel pick-up housing is pretty-much the same except the diesel version runs a different pick-up screen than the gas version (see red thing in following image). The screens are interchangeable (snap-on) otherwise .

Thanks for the replies. So i would be better off just keeping my the diesel tank instead of cleaning the gas tank.

I think it all depends on what year the gas tank is from, My 81 sending unit was really differant. I went with my 93 tank but then you run into the cab clearance issue (if a short bed), so you have to weigh you options, what will work best for you? I did mine like that because I was planning on doing a body lift anyways. But now I think I'm going to try a tank where the spare tire would go. I'm trying to get the truck a little lower. The little ones and the wife are always needing help in and out. I replace tanks at work all of the time and have been looking at one of the rear 3500 duramax tanks. It's not very big but was thinking about going with two of them for a total of 40ish gallons. Still in the R&D phase though More R than D. lol

Hey 93, Look into a Ramcharger tank for the rear, you'll need to swap everything including the frame cross-members. I'm planning on this for my crew conversion.

Yhea I was on another site and some one we was talking about how he was going to do that. So that's how I got/stole the idea. I'm cheap and if I can make a tank that will be free work then I will go that route. But if it all comes down to it I'll go with the ramcharger Idea. I have even kicked around the Idea of putting the corvett tranks in the fender well's, but two hold a toatal of 16 gallons so I'm now thinking NO. Thanks for the suggestion.
