Gas Light Came On, Tank Guage On Empty But I Have A Full Tank?
Today I got in my truck started it up and it drove just fine. Then I pulled into the local wataburger and turned the truck off, when I returned I started the truck and the gas light was on and the guage was on E.
I turned the truck off, let it sit for a minute then i started it again. Then the gauge jumped to 3/8 tank for about 3 minute before slowly rising to Full where the tank is actually at.
What would cause this? The float getting stuck in the tank? How much is a new one and is this a common problem??

Sounds like sending unit failure. You can replace the sending unit alone-about $75 from dodge or the entire module-about $375 last time I ck'ed.Either way you have to drop the tank & yes its a common prob.If you've got alot miles-the module might be the way to go-it contains a filter & ck valve that can fail after awhile

Some feel that if you use the hi-volume pump to fill up it can cause the sender to get damaged as the turbulence from the high flow rate tweaks the float arm around causing the sending unit to loosen and eventually fail. I've read where others have had this problem but never use the hi-flow pumps. Just a couple cents to ponder. Kurt
