Gas in diesel tank in Harleysville PA (Gulf stn)

Had ~10 gallons of diesel in the tank. Filled up the tank and actually thought - this diesel smells funny.. but it didn't smell like gas. I guess it was diluted enough. Anyway, leave the station and get to a light and right away the truck starts acting up. Just cutting out a bit. Gas station is no help. No svc. department and just one attendant. They're replace it but..

Now I have a tank that's 2/3 gas and 1/3 diesel. The gas is definitely at least 50% diesel as well. I didn't run it up over 1300 on the way home as it was cutting out a bit as it passed 1500. I have tried to siphon but it just won't seem to get going. I can't fit a wide enough hose down the neck to get a worthwhile amount flowing anyway (seems to be some sort of butterfly valve or something down there?). What do i do? I'm supposed to leave around 4am for a 150mi drive with 6K trailer attached.

How do I drain the tank? I don't have the tools to drop it - does anyone have a suggestion?

Is it likely that damage was done to the injectors or fuel pump? I probably have 15 miles on the tank. I can only assume if either of these are covered under warranty they're probably not covered if you put gas in the tank.

Next step - obviously i need to get as much of this crap out of the tank as possible and then fill up with straight diesel and continue to fill up every opportunity but should i add a lubricant? 2-stroke oil OK? I have that or motor oil.

I looked through other threads on here but couldn't find anything specific on draining the tank.

Any help is appreciated.. Thanks!

Maybe go to you local auto parts store and get one of those transfer pumps. they are red and come with hose, you could fish that down into the tank and pump out as much as you can. then fill it up with fresh diesel and some power service. Might want to also drop the fuel filter and put in a new one.
Good luck, hope this helps.

If you can get even a small hose into the tank, you might be able to "push" it out with compressed air.

Maybe you can pull the line off the outlet of the lift pump, and use that to help get the bad stuff out?! But I would try to get our hands on a transfer pump. You'll be suprised at all the uses you'll find for it, after you get one. Good luck!

Wish I'd caught this thread earlier!

Since you're low on tools, just open the fuel filter drain valve and place an appropriate container under the truck (you have a jack, so lift it up if you want to fill 5 gallon at a time); bump the lift pump with the key as required.
Refill with #2...

You didn't drive far enough to significantly damage the IP or injectors due to the fuel's reduced lubricity.

Did you just grab the wrong fuel nozzle at the pump?

The members are giving you some good advice. XLR8R's recommendation to you is the easiest way to get that gas out of there. I would recommend adding some type of additive like Power Service, Stanadyne, or Lucas with your new batch of #2 diesel. I like the additive by Stanadyne callled "Lubricity Formula" or "Performance Formula" but not all the truck stops have it. The big problem with gas in the system is the "drying" effects,
that the gas has on the parts internally.

Good luck you you!

Easiest way I've found to drain the tank is to crawl under and remove the fill hose from the tank and siphon it.
Not sure on a '06 but earlier models have a rollover ball in the fill hose that prevents getting a siphon hose down it.

Go get you 4 gals of 2 stroke oil, dump it in and drive like normal. My wife but 20 gal of gas in my truck. I called my local cummins mechanic. I happened to be in the walmart parking lot. He told me to dump at least 4 gals of either 2 stroke or non detergent 30wt in it and drive it. This was in my 03 at 15000 miles, the truck had over 70,000 when I got traded it. It never had a hiccup.

I saw this post on the drive back from Wal-Mart with the transfer pump in hand.

I managed to nearly fill a 30ga drum though I could not get the siphon rolling and ended up pumping that thing manually the whole way through

Went to a new station, threw in some PS and filled it up. Had to tow a light trailer yesterday so I filled the tank 3x in the first 300 miles.

What a waste of time. The worst part is that it turns out they KNEW they had gas in the wrong tank but they left the pumps on~!? ***

thanks for the assistance!
