Despite their rather pedestrian appreance, fan shrouds are actually really important. Best to go find one for your rad, esp. if towing.

Sorry for the hijack, but is there something special about the Taurus fan or was that just a generic comment? I ask because I have been running without a fan in my rc nd it gets hot when in the snow or mud.

The Taurus fan is a very high flow electric fan that is common in junkyards.

Over the years the two main factors I've found in the effectiveness of a fan is how big and how close. An appropriately sized fan placed as close as possible doesn't need a shroud. Electrics need a better shroud than they come with because they are weak in comparison to an engine driven. If you need to use a shroud, the best approach is one that covers the entire radiator ducting it to the fan or fans. Also install flappers that allow air to blow through at road speeds.

Apparently the fan to get from a Taurus is one from the 3.8 engine. It is supposed to be much larger than the others.

I have the taurus fan In my truck and it has been great. It does need to be out of a taurus with a 3.8 from around 92 or 93. I modified the taurus shroud to work but now I am making a tin shroud to mount the fan more in the center of the radiator.

Thank for the info on the elec. fan. My rc won't be seeing any towing, but sometimes it sees some work when there is no air moving through the rad. It does just fine on the road, even in 95*. I would put a mechanical on, but I can't find one.

After reading several posts about putting electric fans on one thing I've noticed that hasn't been discussed is venting the part of the crowd that covers a radiator that isn't covered by the fan. Some people drilled holes in the shroud to vent air going down the road, I had a Volkswagen Rabbit, it's shroud has holes in it that were covered by rubber flaps. What I noticed was when the fan would come on Gerber flaps would seal the holes and make the fan pull all of the air. Just my ramblings and two cents worth.
